I paused over what category to put this book in. It's literary nonfiction, a genre I increasingly love. Nonfiction seems good to me; "memoir" is a little specific, I think.

i concur, even though i've failed to get beyond the first 20 pages of the book. i had such a stern, burning desire to read it when it first came out! Alas, so many other books have eclipsed it in desireability.
